He was first married on September 8, 1903 to Lizzie Holt. They were married by Minister J.H. Wimbish at his home. Interestingly, Robert lists his name as Robert Bowman on the marriage license. His does not state who his father is. That part is blank. His states that his mother is "Nannie Willard or Bowman." Lizzie only states that her mother was Sallie Holt.
Robert married the second time on November 23, 1912 to Polly Holt. This time he lists his name as Robert Willard and he lists his parents as Jerry and Nancy Willard. They were married by R.A. Arrington at the home of Sam Willard. Polly Holt states her parents as Will and Lizzie Holt. They were the same William Holt and Elizabeth Spence that married in Carroll County, Virginia right after the War Between the States ended. William Holt and wife Elizabeth Spence started the Holts on Holt Ridge
