Bernard George Bramhall was born on July 28, 1917 @ Rocky Comfort, Missouri. He died August 23, 1997 at Puyallup, Washington.
Bernard was the son of my aunt, Flora Maxine Killion (Good) Bramhall Peden Scott and Bernard Bramhall. He had only one sibling, brother Zolan.
Bernard was married to Ethel Maude Johnston. I believe they met in Portland, OR during World War II. Bernard and Ethel had 2 children: Daniel & Catherine.
Bernard served in the U.S. Navy from 1939 to 1945 (joining @ Joplin, MO). He completed his Naval training in Illinois (Great Lakes Naval Training Center, which at the time was "north of Chicago") and then was sent on to San Diego, CA. He was then assigned to the U.S.S. New Orleans, a heavy cruiser, and was on-board ship when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor (Hawaii) on Dec 7, 1941. He later joined the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. His "application for membership" stated that "during the attack . . . I loaded 1.1. Ammo over the bridge of the ship". The U.S.S. New Orleans, along with other ships, was in "the Navy yard repair basin" that Sunday morning.
I have no information for his years during the Korean War.
Bernard worked for several years at Boeing (in Seattle, WA) but also lived for a number of years in Portland, OR.
