Charles returned to Kansas and moved his family to San Diego, California in 1888. He sold real estate there for about two years. The family moved back to Cowles, New Mexico where Carrie's father and two brothers were living. Charles died in 1895.
Carrie then married Joseph Blonger on April 10, 1902 in Santa Fe. He was a mining prospector in the area. It is not know what happened to this marriage, however, a newspaper article in the Las Vegas Optic states that it only lasted for a few weeks. If they actually divorced, no evidence has been found. Joseph lived until 1933. After 1903, there is no record of Joseph in New Mexico. When he died, Joseph was cremated. The 1900 New Mexico Federal Census lists Carrie as living at Cowles, working as a laundress for her brother Henry D.'s boarding house called Winsor Camp.
In 1904, Carrie married Benjamin P. Hume. Hume owned a hunting camp across the mountains near Mora, New Mexico. They spent much of their time there. Her two sons George and Harry were grown and Forest Rangers in the area. Her daughter Emma, moved with them. The neighboring ranch was owned by Isaiah and Elizabeth Robinson. Emma eventually married their son Fred Robinson. George married the Robinson's adopted daughter, Matie Martinez Robinson.
In 1913, Carrie had a stroke and was paralized. She lived with her daughter, Emma until she died in 1916.
