John U.S. Terry was the third born son of William and Fanny (Pickles) Terry. He was born on 28 June 1871 in Union County, Illinois. On 14th September he married Martha Jane Gordon in Johnson County, Illinois. John was an insurance salesman until 1900 when he and his brothers started the Food Canning Company in Goreville, Illinois. Farmers brought produce to be sold at the canning company, it was processed and the shippped out by the Illinois Central Railroad (which runs through Goreville)by 1930 he is listed as a clerk at the Post Office. They would eventually five children. Today they are buried in the Canna (Terry) Cemetery.
