According to the 1959 Bisbee City Directory, he worked as a water tender for Phelps Dodge and lived at 46 Black Knob in Warren with his wife Peggy.

Sam Bugen was called home by the Lord to be with his loving wife, Peggy and other members of his family on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. He was 84 years old.

Sam was born to Chris and Mamie Milutinovich Bugen at their residence above the Bugen Brother Grocery once located at 206 Naco Road in Bisbee, Arizona on January 27, 1927. He attended Bisbee High School and in 1942, at an early age, moved to San Pedro, California to work as a welders helper in the L.A. Ship Yard with his uncle, Buck Milutinovich.

After WWII he returned to Bisbee to work underground at the Campbell Shaft and with his mother worked in Mamies Drive-In, across from the Warren Ballpark and then became owner and manager of the 400 Club on Brewery Avenue in Bisbee.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War then, once again returned to Bisbee where he was employed by Phelps Dodge Mining Company for the next 43 years as a Power House Operator.

Sam was a man who lived a life of dignity, decency and grace. He was a member of the Bisbee Elks Lodge #671, Bisbee American Legion #16, Masonry Perfect Ashlar Lodge #12 of Bisbee, Scottish Right 32? of Tucson and Sabbar Shiners, Tucson. He was also a member of the executive board of the St. Stephen Nemanja Church of Bisbee.

Mr. Bugen was preceded in death by his parents-Chris and Mamie Bugen; loving wife of 32 years-Peggy Featherman Bugen; sister-Bette Bugen Moore and brother-in-law-Lon J. Moore.

Survivors include his brother-George C. Bugen of Bisbee; Aunt Violet; cousins-David, Diane and George Milutinovich of Fresno, California, Evonne Dabkovich of Camarillo, California, John Vukotich of San Diego, California and numerous relatives throughout California, Texas and Yugoslavia.

Services will be held at St. Stephens Nemanja Church, 216 Park Avenue at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

Military and Masonic honors at graveside. Donations may be made in memory of Sam to St. Stephens Nemanja Church, P.O. Box 5666, Bisbee, Arizona 85603 or to your favorite charity.
