A Well-Known Workman Passes Away After a Long Illness--The Funeral Today.
Mr. John R. Rigler died at his home at 804 West Fifth street yesterday afternoon at 6:10 o'clock after an illness of five years. Heart failure was the immediate cause of death.
Mr. Rigler was 67 years old and leaves a widow and nine children: Mrs. J. T. Christopher, of Florence, S. C.; Mrs. E. C. Osborne, of Charlotte; Charles E. Rigler, of Newport, Wash.; John and George Rigler, and Misses May, Nellie, Mary Belle and Connie Rigler, and two brothers, Messrs. E. W. Rigler, of this city, and W. S. Rigler, of Waco, Texas, and two sisters, Mrs. M. L. Frazier and Mrs. H. C. Irwin, who are at Wrightsville Beach.
Mr. Rigler was employed by the Mecklenburg Iron Works for 35 years. On account of his death this shop will close for the day and the following named fellow workmen will act as pall-bearers at the funeral: Messrs. E. S. Williams, W. E. Culpepper, R. B. Chapman, R. E. Kennedy, W. F. Millersham and J. A. Prim.
For forty years Mr. Rigler was a member of Tryon Street Methodist church. The funeral services will be held at the residence this afternoon at 5:30 o'clock, with the Rev. H. K. Boyer in charge and assisted by Revs. Plato Durham and A. L. Coburn.
