Her father, Bailey Hobson, was the first settler in DuPage county, having located about five hundred acres of land two miles south of Naperville. Elvira was one of the thirteen children and was married in 1863 to John Haight. She was the mother of five children, Hally, Jennie, Mabel, Elisabeth and John Richard, all of whom save John Richard, have preceded her into the other world. Her husband was drowned in the stone quarry pit several years ago.
Thus passes away a daughter of a pioneer and one whose life was full of vicissitudes of pioneer days. The funeral was held at the home of her son, John Richard Haight, on South Washington street, March 24, and was conducted by Rev. Frank S. Brewer, pastor of the Congregational church. Burial in the Naperville cemetery.
