Born Aug. 15, 1926, in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Lon Amichael Canipe Sr. and Essie Jane Botts Canipe. He was a self-employed farmer and was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church, where he has not missed Sunday school in the last 48 years. He was a deacon and trustee of Pisgah and an avid horseman and charter member of the South Mountain Ridgeriders. Mr. Canipe was voted Cleveland County Farmer of the Year in 1994. He served in the Army during World War II, in the European Theater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Lester F. Canipe, Zennie Canipe, Walter Canipe and Rayford Canipe; and four sisters, Lucy C. Hoyle, Annie C. Hoyle, Estelle C. Street and Christine Canipe.
He is survived by his wife, Jewel Lena Daves Canipe of the home; a brother, Lon A. Canipe Jr. of Lawndale; and a sister, Etta C. Wilson of Hemet, Calif.
The funeral will be Pisgah Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
