Ogden - Lucile Mary Todd Birch passed away peacefully on June 30, 2009 at home surrounded by her family.
Lucile was born on January 16, 1924 in Ogden to Matthew Raymond and Anna Jemima James Todd. She was educated in the Ogden area and graduated form Ogden High School in 1942.
On August 12, 1942 she married her best friend Lue Shaw Birch in Preston, ID. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Lucile worked at DDO and Hill AFB as a Data Processor and M.I.P. monitor. She was presented a certificate from the Pentagon for discovering a malfunction in landing gear used by the Air Force; her discovery possibly saved the lives of many. She retired after more than 20 years of government service.
Lucile was an active member of the LDS Church. After retiring, Lue and Lucile were called to work in the Ogden Temple were they served over 10 years doing ordinance work. Lucile would always comment that this was the best calling she ever had.
Lucile loved teaching children and was blessed with the opportunity to be a Primary teacher for 10 years. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Lucile loved to read, quilt and sew. She took pride in her garden and the beautiful flowers she grew. Her greatest joy was her family. She enjoyed many vacations with her grandchildren, She loved each and every one of them the same. She would light up every time one of the grandkids would come to see her, no matter how young or old they were.
Lucile is survived by her loving husband of nearly 67 years, Lue S. Birch.; children Gary Lue (Donna) Birch, Patsy Lucile (Rod) Wintle, Mary Lu (Pat) Sheehan, Mike (Jill) Birch; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren with 3 on the way and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, a daughter Marilyn Ann, and an infant son.
Mom had the sweetest smile and laugh, and such a gentle nature. She handled her illnesses with grace. She never complained about anything and when asked she always said "I'm Okay". She loved going for rides with Dad, who always referred to her as his little chick, and he was the old rooster.
Mom we love you and miss you with all our hearts. We take comfort knowing that you are watching over us, and that we will be reunited with you one day. We consider ourselves lucky to have the best mother we ever could have wished for. We are all better people for having you in our lives.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the Sullivan Hollow 1st Ward. Friends may call at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden on Tuesday, July 7th from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church prior to the service Wednesday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
