PITTSBURG, KS — Margery Louise (Olson) Miller, 95, formerly of Parsons, Kansas, died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Via Christi Village, Pittsburg, Kansas.

She had been a resident of the village since 2007.

She was born on June 14, 1918, in Savonburg, Kansas to Andrew Belmont and Nancy Mary (Comstock) Olson.

On Jan. 1, 1942, she married Ernest William Miller in Chanute, Kansas. He preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 2001.

In 2002, she moved to Pittsburg.

She grew up in Erie, KS, and graduated from Erie High School in 1936. Her family moved to Chanute in 1936. She graduated from Chanute Junior College in 1938. Beginning in 1938, she attended Kansas State University, studying institutional management. She left after her marriage and husband's enlistment in the Army Air Corps. After rearing her family, she returned to school and graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She taught at Garfield Elementary School in Parsons for more than 10 years.

Growing up, Marge was an avid tennis player and golfer and played the violin. She continued playing golf in Parsons, winning the Parsons Country Club ladies championship in 1959. She was a past member of First Christian Church in Parsons and member of First Christian Church in Pittsburg and was active in her church at local and state levels.

Marge enjoyed quilting and reading, and maintained a lifelong intellectual curiosity and love of learning that inspired everyone around her. The love of and interest in her family was paramount to her throughout her life.

Survivors include four children, Kent Miller and his wife, Leslie, of Denver, CO, Janis Ward and her husband, Greg, of Pittsburg, KS, Phillip Miller and his wife, Janet, of Kansas City, MO, and Marianne Davis and her husband, Mark, of Tulsa, OK; 10 grandchildren, Gentry Griswold and Callan Clark, both of Denver, CO, Derek Ward of Raytown, MO, Haydn Ward of Pittsburg, KS, T.J. Miller and Miller Davis, both of Los Angeles, CA, Morgan Miller of New York, Faith Davis and MariCaroline Davis, both of Tulsa, OK, and Andy Miller of Kansas City, MO; seven great-grandchildren; her brother, Kenneth Olson of Chanute, KS; a nephew, Don Olson and his wife, Ellaine, of New Orleans, LA; and a niece, Debbie Deem of Etowah, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Alan Burnell Olson.

The service will be Oct. 12, 2013 at First Christian Church, 705 E. Centennial, Pittsburg, Kansas, with the Rev. J. Lemert Whitmer assisted by Adah Hutchcraft, Via Christi Village chaplain. A private burial will be at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Pittsburg or First Christian Church in Parsons and may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, 67357
