Son of the late Madison Elijah Tripp and Ollye Pearl Waggner Tripp. He was employed by City Motor Company for 52 years as a mechanic and front end specialist. Member of Enterprise United Methodist Church. He served as a medic with the Medical Battalion of the 4th Infantry Division entering Normandy in a landing craft at H-Hour on D-Day and later during the Battle of the Bulge in France. He earned the Bronze Star, with arrowhead, and was awarded the French Croix de Guerre. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Tony Scott; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald M. and Robin Tripp; 4 grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth Howard Tripp of Nashville. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Walter Tripp, William "Bill" Tripp and a step-son, Fred High.
