Suggested edit: Daniel Mock's obituary:
Daniel Mock was born in Bedford county, Pennsylvania, March 22, 1836 and died at the home of his son, Daniel S. Mock, August 18, 1919, being 83 years, 4 months, and 26 days old. He grew to manhood in his native state and county.
In the year 1857, he was united in marriage to Miss Maria Eckhart. A short time after his marriage he moved to Indiana county, Pa., and while here the Civil War broke out. His patriotic spirit caused him to enlist in the cause of his country. He was a member of Company A, Pennsylvania Infantry and served during the entire war.
Mr. Mock moved with his family to Nebraska forty-three years ago, settling in Butler county. This was the year known as grasshopper year when the crops were nearly all destroyed by the pests. Their stay in Butler county was short, only about one and one-half years, when they homesteaded in Platte county near what is now the village of Lindsay. They resided here until about fifteen years ago when they moved to Tilden.
Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Mock, four of whom died in infancy and later a daughter was taken. The children living are, Mrs. Lizzie Crozier of Elgin, George Mock of Genoa, Daniel S. Mock of Tilden, Mrs. Ellen Killham of Genoa, Eli Mock of Clearwater, Fred Mock of Tilden and Joe Mock of Brush Colorado.
On February 25, 1901, the deceased was called upon to part with his beloved wife and helpmate who passed from this life to her eternal rest. Later he was united in marriage to Hulda Rossberg. During the years following his second marriage he spent a part of his time in Texas and part of it in Nebraska. His final sickness was of short duration, he having attended the funeral services of comrade Cunningham a little over a week ago. But like so many of the old soldiers who are fast answering the last roll call he has gone to join the superior number on the other side.
Daniel Mock was a good man, a loyal citizen and will be missed by his friends and neighbors who had learned to love and respect him. Besides his wife and sons and daughters he is survived by two brothers and two sisters who live in Pennsylvania.
The funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Tilden at 1 o'clock Thursday, conducted by Rev. Zinnocker. Interment in the Newman Grove cemetery.
