JOHN F. ARANTZ PASSES AT HOME -
John F. Arantz, beloved pioneer resident of Decatur, was summoned by death this morning at 5:45 o'clock after a long illness at his home, 114 Oak Street.
Mr. Arantz came here in 1883 and with his brothers, Frank, John and Tony Arantz, operated a lumber business for many years. The Arantz company operated the first band saw mill in the South.
In 1884 Mr. Arantz was married to Miss Theresa Frye, of Fort Wayne, Ind, who survives him. Surviving also are three daughters, Mrs. Norman Brown of Dickson, Tenn, Mrs. V.A. McNamee of Birmingham and Mrs. O.F. Baur of Nashville; two sons, Arthur J. Arantz of Birmingham and Carl F. Arantz of Decatur; one brother, William Arantz of Memphis; one sister, Mrs. C.A. Beurett, of Fort Wayne.
Prayer service will be conducted at the residence Friday morning at 8:30 o'clock with funeral services following at 9:00 o'clock at St. Ann's Catholic Church, conducted by Rev. Father Moeller. Interment will be made in the family lot in City Cemetery, Brown directing. Pallbearers will be John W. Featherstone, James Van Arsdale, C.J. O'Bryant, C.O. Foote, James A. Nelson, Thomas Hodson, Thomas Ralston and A.H. Karter.
While not unexpected, Mr. Arantz's death today came as a shock to his hundreds of friends in the city.
