RALEIGH, NC--Robert (Bob) L. Wine, 86, died Dec. 14, 2006, at Universal Health Care in Raleigh where he had been a resident for several months. He was born in Daleville, Indiana, to Russell Raymond and Rachael J. (Costerison) Wine on Sept. 7, 1920, and had been a life-long resident of Muncie until his retirement in 1988. Mr. Wine had been employed by Kirby-Wood Lumber Company and Muncie Millwork until he opened his own cabinet shop, Wine's Wood Works, in 1960.
Mr. Wine graduated from Muncie Central High School and married Martha E. (Lorton) on Feb. 4, 1939. During World War II, Bob served at the 3rd Replacement Depot in Marburg, Germany.
The Wines lived at 701 N. Jefferson St. in Muncie and were founding members of the McKinley Neighborhood Association. In addition, they were active members of First Church of the Nazarene for many years.
Bob was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and an early member of the Die Hard Cubs Fan Club.
Bob and Martha lived in Zephyrhills, Fla., from 1988=1996 when they moved to Raleigh, NC to be near their daughter, Linda Roberts. They were members of Asbury United Methodist Church in Raleigh.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Martha, who is also a resident at Universal Health Care; two daughters, Judy Beard of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Linda Roberts (husband: Stephen D.) of Raleigh, NC; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, George L. Wine (wife: Ilene) of St. Augustine, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Russell Reuben Wine, and his son-in-law, Eugene P. Beard.
According to Mr. Wine's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. An inurnment of his cremated remains will take place in a private family service at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, later in the spring.
