The Syracuse Journal newspaper carried this story:
Ellis Coman, Esq. an old and well-known resident of Eaton village, died very suddenly while at the breakfast table last Sunday morning, aged 74 years. He had been in unusual health. He had been in unusual health previous to his death, which was probably caused by a sudden affection of the heart.
Mr. Coman was one of the oldest merchants of this county, buying nearly fifty years ago, as a partner of the late Hirman D. Coyes, subsequently removing to Eaton, where he remained in trade until his death. He held the office of Justice of the Peace for four years.
