A.T. Garrison who join Mt. Vernon in 1890. He was the man who is most responsible for the Erwins coming here from GA. He was born in 1814 in Hall Co. GA the son of a circuit rider --Rev Dave Garrison. As a young man he considered going into the ministry and went to South Carolina to study. A.T. was a Major in pre-war GA. but was too old for the Civil War. He left North GA with about 50 people (who were all Methodist) in 1866 for Potts Camp MS. which included three Erwin brothers-- one of which was John Miller Erwin who later married his daughter Mary Emmiline Garrison and another Erwin brother married one his daughters also. The extended family once again moved to the Mt. Vernon Church area of NW Tn. in 1881. He is buried next his daughter Mary Emmiline Erwin
