Cromwell Casey was born February 18, 1846, in Perry county, Illinois. He died at Arkansas City, Kan., September 12, 1892. His early years were spent at the place of his birth on the old homestead. At the age of eighteen he enlisted as one of the Illinois volunteers. For his services as a soldier. Mr. Casey in common with his comrades received a certificate of thanks from President Lincoln, which he valued highly. On his return home he took a course at Shuttiff college and then resumed farm life at the old home. In 1873 he was united in marriage to Miss Bell Petit with whom he walked for nineteen happy years. In 1880 he removed to Kansas and has since remained in the west, for the most of his time engaged in the grocery business, and he leaves behind him a record of capability and sterling intergrity. For twenty years he has been a faithful member of the Baptist church and he loved the service of his Master. He was also a member of the A.O.U.W. society.

Mr. Casey was particularly sunny in disposition, fond of little ones, and even in his ours of suffering had a smile of welcome for all his callers. A wife, one brother and three sisters mourn his absence, but they comfort themselves in the knowledge that their loss is his eternal gain.
