Married Jefferson Slade, 20 Jun 1870, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah
Children - Nancy Slade, Mary Slade, Elizabeth Emma Slade, Margaret Slade, Adah Ann Slade, Benjamin Slade, Samuel Jefferson Slade, James McGaw Slade, Lorenzo Slade
Obituary - Sister Mary Jane Western Slade, Beloved wife of Jefferson Slade, departed this life at Mancos, Montezuma, Colorado, November 17, 1894. The cause of her death, a concerous tumor of the bowels.
Deceased was the daughter of Samuel R, and Ann (Winsborough) Western. She was born in Birmingham, Wors., Englan, 21 December 1851. Her parents were members of the Church at the time of her birth. She with her parents emigrated to Utah in 1868, settled in Salt Lake Citiy, remained there about a year, then moved to Sprin Valley Nevada, where she met and married Jefferson Slade, 20 June 1870. They moved to Pine Valley, Utah, then to Panguitch, Iron, Utah, then on to San Juan in 1881, thence to Mancos where she spent the remainder of her days.
She was the mother of nine children, seven of them survive her. Sister Slade was a saint in every sense of the word. Kind, patient, charitable and unassuming, full of faith and integrity. For twenty-five years she lived surrounded by circumstances sufficient to try a soul stronger physically than herself. Being poor in this world's good and complelled to labor hard for the support of her family, yet she never complained or murmured. She was full of faith that failith not. She was of that favored group of women who have implicit faith in the Celestial Order of Marriage, living in that capacity during her married life, and during that period, never giving her husband a cross word. Truly Sister Slade was a model in many respects.
All was done for her during her sickness, no means or care were spared to save her life, but it was decreed other wise, and she passed away surrounded by sorrowing relatives and friends. A large number turned out to her funeral, as her friends were many, and her enemies none.
