Marion was enrolled Jan. 14, 1864 at Springfield, Mo by Capt. J. W. Robb in CO.H. 2 REGT. MO State Light Artillary Volunteers.
He fought in the Civil War on the Union Side.
He first settled on top of Beaver, on the Bluff opposite the farm buildings on Raymond Hart's farm, Later moved about 2 miles upstream and built a large cabin on the East bank of Beaver Creek.

Uncle Marion Hartley died at his home near Arden last Monday and was buried in the Denney Grave Yard the following day. Mr. Hartley is one of the old settlers, and well respected citizens of Douglas Co., and his presence will be greatly missed in the community in which he lived.
