Wallace Champagne was born on October 7, 1910 in Brooks, the oldest son of Max and Annie (Shank) Champagne. He was raised and educated in Brooks.

On November 26, 1930 he was married to Mae Perreault at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Brooks. The couple lived and farmed in the Brooks area for a short time before moving to South Milwaukee, WI where Wallace worked at Bueyrus Erie. Later he returned to Brooks where he owned and managed the Brooks Liquor Store. For a time, he served as the mayor of Brooks.

He was a member of the Eagles in Thief River Falls and enjoyed golf, bowling, dancing, singing and watching sports on television.

Red Wing - Wallace Champagne, 88, formerly of Brooks, died on Sunday, November 29, 1998 at High Park Nursing Home in Red Wing.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, December 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Brooks with Father Joe Richards officiating. Casketbearers will be Aurel Parenteau, Marc Parenteau, Leroy Sabourin, Leonard Boucher, Leroy Mercil and Lawrence Berberich. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Brooks.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. with an 8 p.m. prayer service at Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Wallace is survived by four daughters, Euella (Tony) Galasso of Florence, OR, Doreen (Lory) Bryant of Riverside, CA, Bonita (Lawrence) Langer of Hager City, WI, and Betty (Thomas) Yoder of Wichita Falls, TX; two sons, Bernard (Grace) Champagne of Snow Hill, NC and Arnold Champagne of San Francisco, CA; his former wife, Mae V. Champagne of Snow Hill, NC; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
