Dillard "Dick" Box was born 1828 in Mississippi and married Emiline "Emily" Rushing who was born in Alabama abt. 1831 and who already had a daughter, Josephine. Dillard and Emily Box were counted in the 1860 Census of Choctaw Co. MS with Josephine, b. 1849, John T., b. 1857, and Henry M., b. 1859. In the 1870 Census of Choctaw Co. MS, Dick and Emily Box had three children in their household: Alice, age 8, b. in AL; William, age 4, b. in AL and Walter, age 2, b. in AL. The birth of the three children in AL suggests Emily Box may have spent the war years with her family in AL. Dillard Box had served with Capt.Dunn's Co. of Calvary of the Mississippi Rangers (CSA) during the war years and was listed in the 1870 census as a farmer. In the 1880 Census of Choctaw Co. MS, Dillard and Emily Box were counted with 2 sons, William G., age 14 and Robert, age 12, and a younger daughter, Sarah, age 9. In the 1900 Census, Emiline Box, age 68, was counted in the household of Robert Box, her son. Dillard and Emiline Box are believed to be buried in Ebenezer Cemetery.
