Born in Brookhaven, in January 1881, Mr. Hartman was the son of Frank Hyrum Hartman, a native of Germany, and Mary Eitel, a native New Orleanian. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Oscar H., Sr., Albert Sidney, Sr., and General Charles Dudley Hartman.

Beginning with a small firm in 1906, Mr. Hartman had pioneered the burial insurance policy in Mississippi and had built Hartman's Funeral Homes to a business valued at a half a million dollars when he retired and sold his interests in 1959. At the time he retired Mr. Hartman had watched his company grow until there were branches of Hartman's Funeral Home in McComb, Hazlehurst, Tylertown and Crystal Springs.

He was one of the organizers of the State Bank and Trust Company serving as President from 1936 through 1960. He was a Mason, a Shriner, a charter member of the Brookhaven Kiwanis Club, was active in various funeral home organizations and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, at 10 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church with interment in Rosehill Cemetery. The Reverend Henry Hope will officiate at the services. The body will remain at Hartman's Funeral Home until time for the services.
