DEATH OF NATHAN D. STAFFORD

Nathan D. Stafford a pioneer of 1853 and a son in law of the late Captain Lewis Love, died yesterday morning at his home, 325 East Seventh Street, after an illness of some length. Mr. Stafford was born in Kilvert [sic] County, North Carolina In 1825. He arrived in Oregon in 1853 and was married to Miss Mary C. Love, the oldest daughter of Captain Love January 9, 1859.

For the past 30 years, Mr. Stafford had made his home on the East Side, and followed his trace as carpenter. He was well respected in the community and was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. F. P. Walker, Mrs. W. E. Pencher, Lewis Grant Stafford, Mrs. B. Finke, Portland; Mrs. Lena Richmond, Mrs. Sarah Anderson, Chicago; and Mrs. Delia Holman, Astoria. The funeral will be held from Finley's Undertaking Chapel Sunday,

and Love's Cemetery on Columbia Slough will be the place of interment.



Nathan Davis Stafford married Mary C. Love (1842-1927), daughter of Lewis Love and Samantha Matilda Griffith.


Nathan Stafford's father, Joseph Clarkson Stafford, born about 1807 in Guilford Co., North Carolina. Death unknown. On 10 June 1824, he married Lydia Mendenhall (born 9 Aug 1807 in Deep River, Guilford Co., North Carolina. May have died and been buried in Rush, Indiana.
