Private, Companies F & I, 7th Tennessee Cavalry, enlisted in Carroll Co, TN on 9/14/1862 with the consent of his parents. He served out his one year enlistment and mustered out at Saulsbury, TN on 10/25/1863. At the time of his re-enlistment at Paducah, KY he was a refugee resident of Magnolia, IL. He was discharged with the regiment when it disbanded at Nashville, TN on 8/9/1865. He applied for an invalid pension in 1878. He joined Post #56 of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in 1887 and was an officer on 12/18/1896. His wife, Easter J Jones Porter, applied for a widow's pension in 1916 from Oklahoma.
