Richard LaMonte Bennett Obituary

Richard LaMonte Bennett 1929 ~ 2006

Richard LaMonte Bennett, beloved husband, father and grandfather, suffered a fatal heart attack on Jan. 2, 2006. He was born Nov. 8, 1929 in Lehi, Utah, to Clifford Crosby and Dorothy Carr Bennett. He married Shirley Hoggard in the Salt Lake Temple on March 28, 1957.

Dick served in the Navy and was awarded several medals before his honorable discharge in 1952. He enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1963 and was honored as the Outstanding Seabee of B Company and of the MCB-2 Battalion in 1969. He retired in 1979. Dick was a master electrician and retired from Geneva Steel.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to Japan and could still speak the language. He faithfully fulfilled many church callings, but the one that was dearest to his heart was that of a home teacher. Dick will be remembered by family and friends for his ever-present tool box and ability to fix anything, for his extensive food storage jokingly called the "Bennett Store," and for his willingness to serve his fellowman. He loved his family, and though he will be missed, his influence will live on. How grateful we are for his legacy of love and service, and for the great privilege of having known him.

He is survived by his wife and children, Kevin Bennett, Brett Bennett and Cindy Walker, 11 grandchildren, three sisters and six brothers. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and a granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006 in the American Fork 5th Ward Chapel, 381 South 300 East. Friends may call at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E 100 N, American Fork, Friday from 6 to 8 pm and at the church Saturday from 10:45 to 11:45 am. Interment, American Fork Cemetery where the VFW District 4 will have Military Rites.
