Mr. Grotewold was born Nov. 18, 1914, in Larchwood, the son of Fred and Clara (Wallace) Grotewold. He grew up and attended school in Larchwood, graduating from Larchwood High School in 1934.
On June 25, 1936, he married Maxine Stoefen. He worked various jobs until he began working for his father in the Standard Oil Business, eventually taking over the operation. He drove school bus for West Lyon schools 18 years. After retiring, the couple wintered 11 years in Mesa, Ariz.
His wife died April 4, 1993.
On Sept. 3, 1993, he married Darlene Baron. They lived in Alamo, Texas, and Larchwood.
He served on the Larchwood City Council and was a member of the volunteer fire department. He was active in the civil air patrol, holding the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, two daughters, two stepsons, two stepdaughters, 16 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and one brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; two daughters, Donna Tieszen and infant, Cheryl; two granddaughters, Tami Olson and Dawn Whitlock; one brother, Earl, and one sister, Ellen "Dolly" Larson.
