Verble Odell Smith passed peacefully at age 92 on July 19, 2009 in Midwest City, OK. Verble was born to Elmer and Verdie (Williams) on March 27, 1917 in Kiowa County, OK. Verble married his childhood sweetheart, Lillie Grubb, November 24, 1940, in Mt. View, Oklahoma. Verble was a WWII Veteran. After the war Verble and Lillie lived in Japan, Newfoundland, Altus, OK and Stillwater, OK. They had two sons, Gerald ("Jerry") and Ron. After 23 years in the Air Force, Lillie and Verble retired to Midwest City where Verble began his second career at Tinker Air Force Base. Verble retired from Tinker after 17 years service. Verble was a 32 Degree Mason. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business degree from OCU in 1966. Lillie and Verble were charter members of the Oklahoma Limousin Cattle Association. They were active members of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Midwest City for over 40 years. Verble was preceded in death in November 2008 by Lillie, who he affectionally called "Wife." Also gone were his parents, Elmer and Verdie, his older brother, Vloris and his younger sister, Cleo. Verble is survived by son, Jerry and wife, Gloria of Edmond and by son, Ron and wife Darlene of Harrah, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2009, at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Midwest City, 900 N. Key Blvd., MWC, followed by a graveside service at Mt. View Cemetery at 3:00.
