Edward Thomas, son of Samuel and Parilee Baker, was born near Lutesville, Missouri, January 23, 1871, and departed this life in his home in Chatsworth February 28, 1946, at 9:45 p.m., making him at the time of his death, 75 years. one month and five days old.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H.R. Halfyard. The music was furnished by Mrs. Howard Trinkle and Mrs. K.R. Perterfield. Casket bearers were Ray Marr, J.W. Heiken, S.H. Herr, James Mauritzen, Albert Wisthuff and Phil Kohler. Burial was in the Chatsworth cemetery.
He was the eldest of six children. Two sisters of this family survive.
When he was 16 years of age his father died and he was compelled to look after his mother and his brothers and sisters.
He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Lutesville and on July 17, 1892, was married to Mary Emalene Eaker, also of Lutesville. Six children were born to this union, four sons and two daughters. Two daughters and one son preceded him in death.
His widow and three sons survive, namely, Hallie E., of Chatsworth; Wilbur A., of Chebanse, and Ernest M., of Chicago. Also the two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Borks, Scopus, Mo., and Mrs. Mamie Shell, of Hahn, Missouri, thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was a devoted husband, loving father and kind friend to all.
In the fall of 1906, while his family was still young they moved to Illinois in the Chatsworth vicinity. He was engaged in farming, mostly around Chatsworth until the fall of 1926, when he retired and moved to Bloomington. He lived there two years and the remaining years he and his widow had lived in Chatsworth.
Mr. Baker, or "Ed", as he was known by all his friends, was never idle. Whenever there was an odd job, there also was "Ed." He will be missed most by his family, but also by all of his friends.
