Herbert Hackbarth owned and operated the farm established by his father on what is now County Road FF in the Town of Scott (adjacent to this cemetery). He was also an officer of the Berlin Town Insurance Company, a member of the Town of Scott School Board, and served as secretary of St. John Lutheran Church in Scott and Zion Lutheran Church in the Town of Maine.

Herbert married Ella Gaeu in 1915. They had three children: Revelda, Elvira, and Kurt. Ella died in 1938. Herbert married Emma Riemer in 1942.
