Mariana Norris York, 93, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009, with her family at her bedside. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Wade Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Burcham, the Rev. Ricky Woodall and the Rev. James Hooper officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at Wade Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Mariana was born in Stansel, Texas, south of Hubbard, to the late Samuel F. and Lucy Viola Perry Norris. She attended Headquarters School until the family moved to Hubbard, where she attended Hubbard High School and graduated as president of her class in 1933. Mariana lived in Hubbard the remainder of her life with the exception of the time spent traveling with her husband, Tony York, in his baseball career. She married Tony York on Jan. 29, 1941, in Fort Worth.

Mariana, a member of the First Baptist Church of Hubbard since 1930, served as church treasurer and assistant secretary for 40 years. She also served as WMU president for 15 years and was instrumental in starting a project to help the needy that is still active in the local community. Mariana was also an active member of the board of directors of Fairview Cemetery in Hubbard for over 30 years. Mariana retired from First State Bank of Hubbard after 32 years of service. She loved her job, her coworkers and her customers - all were special to her. Mariana had a strong love and passion for the WMU, Fairview Cemetery, and her family.

She was preceded in death by husband, Tony, in 1970; brothers, Windell D. Norris and Billy Fred Norris; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lea Norris, Juanita Sanders, Lois Langford, and Louise "Sissy" Blount.

She is survived by daughter, Nancy York Ryan and husband, Bill, ; grandchildren, William Robert "Bill" Dempsey and wife, Shari, Diana Dempsey Farmer and husband, Brad; great-grandson, Tony Farmer; great-great-grandchildren, Cody, Blane, Levi and Cameron; sisters-in-law, May Hollingswort , Nadine Colwell, and Sue Hammock; four step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and many other family members.
