David was born in West, Texas, to Charles Michael and Frances Earline Carpenter Rakes. He attended West schools and graduated from LaVega High School in 1989. David was a carpenter for several area contractors including Gloria Bolier for over five years. He also worked for American Marble Company in Waco and Quality Marble Company in West. He was a Baptist. David enjoyed playing his radio, listening to music, dancing under the stars, swimming in the river, driving four-wheel drive trucks, shooting pistols, and his rebel flags.
David is preceded in death by his grandmother, Katherine Louise Carpenter.
Survivors include his son, Seth Rakes, of Dallas; daughters, Kaylyn Rakes, of Dallas, Rayne Rakes, of Waco and Sierra Rakes, of Houston; his mother, Earline Stephens, of Waco; his father, Charles Rakes, of Meadows of Dan, Virginia; his grandfather, Elvin Earl Carpenter, of Richland; a brother, Heath Mynar and wife, Kelly, of Waco; a sister, Tracie Mynar, of Waco; an uncle, Buddy Carpenter and wife, Suzanne, of Celeste; an aunt, Evelyn Womack and husband, Ken, of New Caney; nephews, Gage and Damon; nieces, Brooke and Breanna; and many other relatives and friends.
