Joseph was the son of Robert Kyle & Betty Ann Campbell. Joseph came to Virginia following his parents in July 1759 and lived in Richmond until January, then removed to their father's plantation until Spring when they settled in Botetourt County, Virginia. He married Jane Dinguid in 1768 in Buckingham County, Virginia, daughter of William Dinguid. To this union, 10 children were born:

Robert Kyle 1780-1861 Married Jane Peck on 2/6/1823,

Margaret "Peggy" Kyle Lofland DOB: 12/17/1781 Married Dorman Lofland on 10/30/1800 Botetourt, Va.

Joseph served in the American Revolution War from Botetourt County, Virginia.

Joseph Kyle is appointed Surveyor of the Road from Halls Run Ballarts Spring in the Room of Thomas Mcfarran who is discharged from that Office."

"Ord. that Wilbo Hudson, a son of Elizabeth Hudson, a convict servant of Jos. Kyle's, be bound by the church wardens to the said Joseph Kyle accdg. to law. "
