LILA LEE (EARP) YANCEY
CRANE: Lila Lee (Earp) Yancey, 83 of Odessa, and formerly of Crane, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Parks Methodist Retirement Village.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 4, 2009 in the Crane County Cemetery with Reverend Tommy Parker officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Lila was born on January 29, 1925 in Henley, Hayes County, Texas. She married Frank Ray Yancey on March 23, 1943 in Crane. She had worked at the Midland AFB from 1943-1944, and for Crane County from March 1962 until March of 1989. She was the assistant County Auditor from July 1975 until her retirement on March 30, 1989 after 27 years of service. She moved to Odessa in 1990 from Crane, and had been a resident of Parks Methodist since 2001. Lila had been a member of the West Odessa Baptist Church.
Lila was preceded in death by her parents Autry Boyd Earp and Annie Lee Sutherland-Earp; her husband Frank Ray Yancey on October 12, 2001; a daughter, Carolyn Raye Yancey-Bostwick on November 25, 1991; her brother, Cecil Thomas Earp; and a sister, Wilma Ruth Earp-McCasland.
She is survived by her son, Bryan Lee Yancey and his wife Becky of Odessa; a son-in-law, John E. Bostwick of Midland; grandchildren, John Cal Bostwick of Frisco, Sonya Renee Bostwick-Cotton of Midland, and Kevin Wayne Yancey of Odessa; great-grandchildren, Courtney Leigh Bostwick and Devyn Cole Bostwick, both of Frisco, Kolton Evan Cotton and Kade Rance Cotton, both of Midland.
Lila was confined to a wheelchair for the last 7 years, but she kept active by painting ceramics, playing Bingo, and visiting with her friends at Parks. She enjoyed being around her family, especially during the holidays. She loved gardening, and cooking, and made banana pudding and pies for everyone. She sewed her own clothes and crocheted quilts. She loved dogs and cats, especially her Boston Terrier "Sweetie". The therapy dogs that visited Parks always had snacks at her apartment.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Parks Methodist Retirement Village for their loving care, and to the staff of Home Hospice of Odessa who were only able to care for her a short time.
