Elvin Nelson Forrest Jr. (affectionately known as Clu) passed away on July 16, 2009 at Desert Springs after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's. Clu was born in El Paso on October 20, 1927. He lived in Albuquerque before moving to Carlsbad, New Mexico. where he worked during the summer for his Dad who started the Forrest Tire Company in 1944. In 1945, he was drafted and served in Europe. After he returned from military service, he attended the University of New Mexico where he met and married Betty Ann Richards. They were married for 38 years and had three children. He was a successful manager of Principal Financial Group for 33 years in El Paso. In 1990, Clu married Carole J. Newman and they shared 19 1/2 wonderful years together. He is survived by his loving wife, who was at his side when he passed away. He is preceded in death by his parents Elvin Nelson Forrest Sr. and Gentry Forrest; also, by his aunt, Mary Shacklette, and uncle, Dick Hudnell. Clu is also survived by daughter, Vicki Brandt (Terry) of Houston; son, Steve Forrest (Candy) of El Paso; and son, Mark Forrest, of Carlsbad, New Mexico. Clu also had two granddaughters, Megan and Kendall; and one grandson, Lee; also, two great grandchildren, Kaleb and Kason; as well as, one sister, Gloria Wilson, two brothers Dick Forrest (Betty), Bob Forrest (Barbara) all of Carlsbad, New Mexico. In addition, Clu is survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Clu lived a rich and full life. He and Carole were fortunate to travel the world-all seven continents! Clu was known for his quick wit, impeccable dress, gentlemanly manners and youthful heart. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Blanca Loya, Executive Director, the nurses and staff of Desert Springs. Hospice of El Paso was a Godsend in time of sorrow. Last but not least, the Forrest family wishes to express their sincere graatitude to Bertha and Ray Rutledge for their dedicated care giving. Clu was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association in his memory. The viewing will be held Sunday, July 19 from 6-9 p.m. at Del Angel (Martin Central) at 3839 Montana Ave. The funeral will be held Monday, July 20 at 9:00 a.m. at the Evergreen Cemeteries, 12400 Montana.
