Published on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 11:18 AM PDT

Ric was born in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania on Nov. 27, 1940 as the only child of Harold and Susan (Hamorsky) Adams. After a courageous battle with lung cancer, he passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 19, 2009.

Ric grew up in Irwin, Penn., where he enjoyed rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing sports, and dancing. When he graduated from high school, Ric enlisted in the United States Navy, which took him to places as far away as France, Cuba, and Hawaii. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, Ric lived in Washington, D.C. and later moved to Southern California. He married Hilary Nomeland in 1968. They lived in Huntington Park, Buena Park, and Yorba Linda, Calif. In 1981, Ric and Hilary had their only child, a daughter named Wendy. In Wendy, Ric instilled his love for sports (especially the Steelers), the outdoors, and country music.

Ric had a fun and active life. He once belonged to a four-wheel drive club, and he enjoyed customizing his jeep and taking it on trips throughout California and Mexico. For a while, he and his wife had a vacation home in Aberdeen, Calif. where he enjoyed hunting and the closeness of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Ric was an avid outdoorsman and loved camping, hunting, and fishing. He loved his tools and was a skilled woodworker. Ric was always working on a project in his garage and created numerous beautiful pieces of furniture.

For decades, Ric enjoyed visiting the Kern River Valley. In 1994, he made the valley his permanent home when he and his daughter moved to Wofford Heights. Ric loved the beauty and the people of the valley. Though he had retired from Hughes Aircraft years earlier, Ric came out of retirement to work for the U.S. Forest Service, a job he truly loved. He was also an active member of the Elks for many years, most recently with Lodge #2358 in Wofford Heights.

Ric will be remembered for his kindness, charisma, and generosity; he never went anywhere without making new friends. He is survived by his daughter Wendy Adams Wolf, son-in-law Rick Wolf, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many dear friends. He will be joining his parents and grandparents in heaven.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights. A gathering will be held at the Elks Lodge in Wofford Heights following the graveside service. Ric will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
