Married Elizabeth Rhodes 19 Dec 1808 in Albemarle Co., VA and married secondly Jane Goin in 1825 in Saline Co., MO. Was the son of Richard Marshall, Sr. and Mary Boswell Marshall.

His tombstone identifies him as Richard Marshall, Sr. even though he was the son of Richard Marshall. He did have a son who was named Richard Marshall so to the local people he may have been known as Richard Marshall, Sr.

The Saline County book done in the 1980's has an article on the early Marshalls in Saline County called: Marshall Family, Bridging the Gap. It talks quite a bit about Richard Allen Marshall (1790-1872). There is also apparently a picture of him on page 582 of the 1881 History of Saline County. It would be great to scan that and add it to his memorial. There is also a description of Richard in T.C. Raney's Along The Trail. It describes Richard as "a man with broad shoulders, a loud voice, a large family and fond of hunting coons at night."
