Phineas Reeves Bird, Sr.
Mendon Pioneer is Called by Death— Funeral services for Phineas R. Bird, 82 lifelong resident of Mendon and last survivor of a family of twenty-two children, will be conducted Tuesday at one p.m. in Mendon ward chapel with Bishop Edgar S. Hancock officiating. Friends may call at the Reeves Bird home Monday evening and Tuesday until time of services. Burial will be in Mendon cemetery under direction of W. Loyal Hall mortuary. Mr. Bird died Friday at three p.m. at the home of a son, Reeves Bird of Mendon after a lingering illness. He was born September 1st, 1862 in Mendon a son of Charles and Sarah Dunsdon Bird. A member of the L.D.S. church he was a high priest in Hyrum stake, had served as chairman of the Mendon Old Folks committee for seventeen years, was road supervisor there for many years and was Cache County and Mendon pound keeper for several years. He married Sarah Ann Lallis in the Logan temple. She died January 31st, 1916. Survivors include two sons, Reeves Bird, Mendon and J. Dewey Bird, Ogden; two daughters, Mrs. Iola B. Garrett, Wellsville, and Mrs. Mona Affleck, Oakland, California; twenty-one grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. ~The Herald Journal, April 21st, 1945, page 1.
