Born Dec. 16, 1923 in New Castle, he was the son of Benjamin F. and Mamie (Melton) Knotts, both deceased. He married Ruth Beam March 20, 1948; she survives.
Mr. Knotts was a life-long Henry County resident and a 1942 graduate of New Castle High School. He served in the U.S. Army, 1906th Aviation Engineering Battalion during World War II in the South Pacific Theatre, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was life member of the New Castle VFW Post 1282. He worked at Chrysler and then managed Knotts' Standard Service Station in Spiceland for many years. He operated a backhoe and worked with Wilbur Coffin in Spiceland and on his own. He was a long-time member of the Spiceland Friends Meeting.
Survivors in addition to his wife include four children, Jay Knotts (and wife Cathy) of Knightstown, Virginia Heiser of Indianapolis, Janice Radcliff (and special friend Bill Williams) of Knightstown and Joy (Mrs. Terry) Bussberg of Lewisville; 11 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Albert and William, and two sisters, Mildred Dudley and Ruby Niven.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sproles Family Funeral Home in New Castle with David Brock and the Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Rush County's Shiloh Cemetery and will include a graveside military service. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
