Born in Lincoln County North Carolina on Sep. 9, 1916- Departed on Jul. 19, 2009 and resided in Gastonia, NC.

Mrs. Sylvia Nixon Camp, 92, of Gastonia died Sunday, July 19, 2009.

Born in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Walter A. Nixon and Julia Emma Henkle Nixon.

Mrs. Camp was a retired seamstress at Gaston Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and was active with Sharing and Caring. She was an avid traveler with Christian Tours, an excellent gardener and cook, and was well known for her yeast rolls and quilting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Lee Camp; brothers, Roy Nixon and Ernest Nixon; sister, Velma Nixon Robertson.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John Chris Camp and Shelia Blackwelder Camp of Harrisburg; daughter and son-in-law, Patsy Diane Camp Moss and Grover Cleveland "Sonny" Moss, III of Denver; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Camp and Avaline Camp Bryson, both of Gastonia; grandchildren, Jonathan Camp, Elizabeth Camp, Michael Camp.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Fairview Baptist Church, 1706 W. Davidson Avenue, Gastonia, NC 28052.
