The monument gives the date of birth Mar. 18 1887. This is another case of "who knows". I have at least 3 documents which show the date of birth as November 1,1897.
1) Certificate of Death shows the November date and it says that he was 27 years 1 month and 19 days...figuring from the date of death Dec. 20 1918 that computes to be the November date of death.
2) 1900 U.S. Federal Census shows him 3 years old which would have him
born in 1897.
3) His U.S., World War I Draft Registration shows the November date of birth.
