ƸӜƷ ƸӜƷ ƸӜƷ ƸӜƷ

Irene Ernestine Fant Loter left her earthly body on Satuarday, January 31, 1998 at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 30 days in Grand Saline, Van Zandt County, Texas
She was the daughter of Robert Fant
and Alice Moore Fant.

Raised in Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina.
Grandma grew up in her teenage years during the Great Depression. Her father owned a Meat Market in Greenville. Her brothers Leon and Harry, came to Dallas, Texas looking for better jobs and talked my Grandma into moving to Dallas, Texas with them in 1950. She was very close to her brothers. My mother told me how her mother and uncles loaded up and made the journey to Texas with her and her brother Milton. She never had the opportunity to finish school and attend college, but she always did her best. She stuggled her whole life and put everyone ahead of herself.

Grandma worked in several sewing factorys in her lifetime. Mr. Fine sewing factory on Harwood Street in Downtown Dallas was one of them. I remember her getting up early in the morning and my brother and I would walk with her to the bus stop and wait with her for the bus, since she never learned to drive. I used to watch her sew on her Singer sewing machine and I still have a dress she made for me when I was two. She taught me how to crochet and I still have over a dozen of the doilies she made. She worked hard for little pay, she always tried to take care of everyone.

She would often talk about her father and mother and Grandmother Mary Lou and tell me stories about growing up in South Carolina. She would talk about her aunts and uncles that they left behind in Greenville. I would call her and always made sure I had pen and paper ready to write down all the history she remembered. She gave me a paper that her mother Alice wrote in 1943 with the names of her ancestors, which lead me on the trail to find out about the family history. I was truly blessed to have spent so much time with her.

My grandmother loved Elvis, Jim Reeves, Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty to name a few. I would watch Hee Haw, Beverly Hillbillies, Porter Wagoner, Andy Griffith and Dallas with her.

My Grandma loved to cook, I can remember my Grandma getting up early in the morning to make breakfast and the whole house smelling like sausage, eggs and bisquits. I could never figure out with very little money she had and still could make a 9 course meal :) When thinking of my grandmother, I remember her cooking in her kitchen, and watching her, trying to remember how she made everything. I still try to prepare meals like her.

Grandma is survived by her Daughter: Evelyn Hope, Son: Milton Leo Fant and his wife Billie Fant, and 4 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren. Proceeded her in death, her father: Robert Fant, her mother: Alice Irene Moore Blankenship and brothers: Leon Fant and Harry Fant, and husband Howard Wesley Loter. We miss her and always will. Rest in Sweet Peace Grandma, you deserve it. I love you very much.

When God saw you getting tired

When God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
He put his arms around you
And whispered come to me
He didn't like what you went through
And he gave you rest
His garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best
And when we saw you sleeping
So peaceful and free from pain
We wouldn't wish you back
To suffer that again
Today we say goodbye
And as you take your final rest
That garden must be beautiful
Because you are one of the best.
