FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS, Thurs., Dec. 4, 1958, Punta Gorda, Dec. 3 - Mr. and Mrs. Willoughby McClenithan of Fort Myers Beach were killed and their two small children injured today in a collision on the Tamiami Trail seven miles north of Murdock. Vernon Kirby, 13, son of Mrs. McClenithan, suffered injuries from which he was still unconscious tonight. Patricia Ann McClenithan, 2, had minor injuries. The driver of the other car, Cyril Edward Giffons, 61, of Sarasota County, also was injured, suffering critical head cuts. Trooper Lynn Brady said the collision came when McClenithan tried to pass another car in a heavy downpour in the path of Giffons' car approaching from the opposite direction. The McClenithan and Giffons cars crashed almost headson. McClenithan was a commercial fisherman and guide. He and his family were en route from Sarasota where Vernon underwent a checkup following an operation about 30 days ago. The McClenithans also had six other children - Oscar McClenithan of North Fort Myers, Alfred McClenithan of Punta Rassa Road and Ralph McClenithan, Miss Delores Kirby, Mrs. Frances McClenithan and Mrs. Earl Steadman of Fort Myers Beach. Also surviving are five grandchildren of Fort Myers Beach; Mrs. McClenithan's mother, Mrs. Rena Rossie, and two sisters, Mrs. M. T. Sowell and Mrs. Viola Bennett, all of Pierson, Fla.; McClenithan's stepfather, Miguel Moralis of Punta Rassa; two brothers, Alton Moralis and Gilmer Moralis of Fort Myers Beach, and two sisters, Mrs. W. A. Walker and Mrs. Nash Dias of Jackson-ville. Funeral arrangements by Engelhardt's Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Commander L. W. Ott, Ralph Andrew, Clarence Joiner, Clarence Blakley, David green, Charlie Green, Bill McMillan, Elmo Futch, H. T. Robinson and Godfrey Santini. Burial will be in Fort Myers Cemetery.
