Wilson (Max) MacGowan Gosnell, 86, of 8 Ray Street, widower of Betty Myers Gosnell, died July 16, 2009 at McCall Hospice House.

A native of Greer, son of the late Bartus C. and Mae Westmoreland Gosnell, he was a 1942 graduate of Greer High School and was captain of the football team. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he participated in two invasions in Italy, Sicily, and Southern France. He was a self-employed paint contractor, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are three stepsons, Marion (B.J.) Pittman of Columbia, Gary Pittman of Greenville, and Daniel Gosnell of Greenville; three sisters, Charlotte Hamby of Greenville, Wilma Gosnell of Greer, and Louise Gullette of Greer; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Gosnell was predeceased by one stepson, Josh Pittman; three brothers, Wallace Gosnell, Clem Gosnell and Nelson Gosnell; and one sister, Louise Stewart.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Mountain View Cemetery conducted by Father Stuart Miller with military rites.

Visitation will be held after the service at the gravesite.

The family is at the home.
