Emery was the son of Henry Lamar and Celia Rebecca (Stevens) Curtiss. He spent his early life in Painesville, Ohio and moved to Ashtabula in 1946. He had one sister, Frances B. born 1904 who married Robert Lockwood.
Mar 12, 1924 he married Helen Marie Lampela. They had 9 children who are not named as most are still living.
Emery was employed by the True Temper Corp. for many years. He belonged to the Knights of Pythias and the Austinburg Grange.
May 17, 1947 he married Alice Fenton Stewart and continued living in Ashtabula until his death. The Rev. Larry McMellen, pastor of the East Side Presbyterian Church officiated at his memorial service.
