Approximately five hundred people attended his funeral at Christ Church Cathedral on April 2, 1955 ... Although a burial plot beside his first wife was available at Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis, J.P. II chose cremation out of respect to his second wife. His ashes were scattered from the company airplane over Frenchman Bay at Bar Harbor.
