A highly respected, substantial and prominent local citizen was suddenly called by death early today when Nathan Auchenbach, of 11 South Second street, this city passed away following a heart attack while visiting at the home of his son, Daniel, in Johnstown, Pa., at one o'clock this morning. Death came suddenly and as a profound shock to members of his immediate family and later to his many friends and numerous acquaintances in this city, all of whom join in extending their condolences to the bereaved family group. The deceased was a resident of this city for many years and only recently retired after nearly thirty years of service with the Bethlehem Steel Company plant in this city, where he had served as engineer of the power plant during his long and creditable career of service with the local manufacturing concern. He was 68 years of age and known as a solid citizen, although extremely modest and unassuming by nature. He was a member of St. Stephen's Reformed Church of this city for many years and well known to members of that congregation. Fraternally, he was affiliated with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. No. 121 of this city, and for a number of years took an active Interest in that organization. Although never particularly prominent In local political circles, the deceased maintained an active interest in local Republican politics and served a brief period as a city school director to finish an unexpired term of a predecessor on the board. Originally from Reading, he came to this city many years ago and has resided here ever since, living an active and useful life as a local civic minded resident. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie L. (nee Kramer), a son, Daniel, of Johnstown, and one granddaughter, Anna May Auchenbach, also of Johnstown. One brother, Robert Auchenbach, of Sprlngmont, Reading, also survives. The body of the well known local resident will be shipped to this city immediately to be prepared for burial in this city.
