George M Garth was married to Katherine Gilchrist, daughter of Daniel and Nancy Philips Gilchrist in Lawrence County on Nov 11, 1851. By this marriage the only living children are: Kate, who married Rev Robert Means DuBose and George M, who married Kate W Burt.
First Lt George M Garth of Courtland was promoted to the captaincy, then being in bad health, when Captain William S Bankhead resigned as Captain of Company I Sixteenth Alabama Regiment. Capt Garth resigned in April 1862 and died a few weeks afterward.

George Garth had another daughter, Kate Gilchrist Garth, born Jan. 18, 1858, died Jan. 11, 1906, who married the Rev. R.M. DuBose, and both are buried in Maplehill Cemetery in Huntsville, along with one of their daughters. I am their great granddaughter.
