John Christopher Ketterman was born the son of Justice (Justus) Ketterman (1795-1807) and Mary Ann Wood (1803-1887).

On Feb. 25th of 1856, John married Elizabeth Catherine Kesling who was the daughter of Peter Kesling (1809-1894) and Delilah Ketring (1814-1882).

John Christopher Ketterman served on the Union side in the 118th Regiment, Ohio Infantry. He entered the servce on the 13th day of Sept 1862 and served in the Civil War from the state of Ohio, Co. H., but he did not survive the war. John was killed in action on 16th of June 1864 near Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia AKA as Pine Mountain Battlefield.

Kennesaw Mountain was the site of the Battle of Kennesaw during the 1864 Alanta campaign of the American Civil War, in which the Union forces of General William Tecumseh Sherman launched a bloody frontal attack on the Confederate Army of Tennessee.

Kennesaw Mountain is to the north and west of Marietta

The Battle started June 10th, 1864 and John Christopher Ketterman was one of the roughly 3,000 Union men and the roughly 1,000 Confederate men that lost their lives in this battle.
