He was born as "Miles Abner" and changed his name to "Gipp Abney" between 1910 and 1920. "Gipp" was the Father of 3 children (Lena May Abney Crouch, Clayton, & Mearl B.(1909 - 1924)(Mearl was killed when he attempted to "hobo" a freight train). He was the son of "Samuel (Abner) Abney" & "Naomie 'Nannie' Tipton"(see Family Link below). "Gipp" retired from the L & N Railroad after more than 31 years continuous service. After his divorce from "Rebecca" on 1 Oct 1921 he was married to "Susie Mae "Sudie" (Crouch) Estes"(1896 - 1962) "Gipp" was a member of the Ruckerville Christian Church and the Railroad Brotherhood Lodge.
