Danny was murdered two days after his twelfth birthday.
For over one year, Danny's grave was an unmarked pauper's grave as per Sacramento County policy requiring that expenses be reimbursed prior to gravesite marking. Due to the efforts led by Danny's loving aunt, Debra Baca, and Sacramento Bee columnist James Trotter, and others like Hispanic News editor George Martinez this requirement was waived for Danny and contributions were accumulated by the Sacramento community for the beautiful marker by American Monument. Also instrumental in the raising of funds was Carrie Oldman of the Department of Corrections.
